Excellent opportunities come from a Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship. Join us to learn more about this prestigious federal grant and how to succeed in your application. Undergraduate and graduate students from any discipline who wish to study an approved foreign language can apply for a Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship at KU. This can be for African languages taught at KU, or at an approved study abroad program, or domestic summer intensive language program. Undergraduates must qualify to enroll in at least second year courses when the fellowship begins. Award amounts:
Graduate Academic Year: Up to $18,000 for tuition and $15,000 stipend.
Summer Fellowship (undergraduate and graduate): up to $5,000 for tuition and $2,500 stipend.
African Languages offered at KU: Arabic, Amharic, Hausa, Kiswahili, Somali, and Wolof.
All Fellowships are contingent upon federal funding.
